How does DPAC handle scholar behavior problems? At DPAC, we understand that addressing scholar behavior problems requires a comprehensive and supportive approach. We leverage multiple systems to create a positive learning environment that encourages good behavior and personal growth. Our behavior management system focuses on incentivizing scholars for positive actions, recognizing and rewarding their efforts to contribute to a respectful and productive classroom atmosphere. We find that this works for over 80 percent of scholars. We also emphasize the importance of collaboration with parents, engaging them as partners in supporting their child's behavior and overall development. By fostering open communication and teamwork, we can address challenges effectively and create a united front for our scholars. In addition, we implement restorative practices that focus on repairing harm and building relationships rather than simply punishing misbehavior. This approach encourages accountability and personal reflection, helping scholars learn from their mistakes. While we strive to keep scholars in class to maximize their learning opportunities, we view out-of-school suspension as a last resort. Our priority is to ensure that all scholars remain engaged in their education while we work together to address any behavioral concerns. At DPAC, we are dedicated to fostering a supportive environment that promotes positive behavior and helps every scholar succeed. You can also view our Code of Conduct here.

What does testing at DPAC look like?At DPAC we leverage a myriad of ways to collect data from scholars to ensure we are addressing all educational needs and closing any gaps. On a weekly basis we conduct small quizzes to allow us to capture an understanding of how well scholars captured the content throughout the week, allowing teachers to address any misunderstandings scholars may have before moving on. Teachers also utilize end of unit/module assessments to gain a wholistic picture of how well scholars are intaking the curriculum. Additionally, in alignment with Nevada State requirements, DPAC scholars take the Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium (SBAC), the NWEA MAP normative assessment, and the ACT for high school scholars.
